well starfest and comicfest were this weekend. pdubz and i went out on saturday to catch the dc nation panel and do an interview with matt sturges. there were WAY more people than i imagined there would be. it was kind of insane. it was a good time and the hotel had some really delicious burgers.
i want more comics had a pretty good spread at the vendor booth. i picked up the incognito trade from them. i picked up the first issue way back when and somehow managed to miss all of the rest. oops. i also picked up a copy of daredevil: visionaries (vol 1 and 2) by frank miller. i do have the issues that make up these trades in a short box somewhere in my sister’s basement, but it’s always nice to have a trade to flip through and read on a whim.
pdubz and i both had fiona staples and amy reeder do sketches for us. i asked for me to be drawn as a robot (and holding scissors?) and pdubz got herself being eaten by a dragon and a nice little unicorn with a gem eyeball.
below is a video of the afterthoughts, i don’t feel like effin around with the audio though, so you can just deal with the quiet spots.
today i received my creative vado hd. i didn’t want to deal with the touch controls of the 3rd gen so i thought i would get the 2nd gen. turns out the 2nd gen and 1st are identical in terms of hardware, they just look a little different. since the price diff was around $30 i opted to go for the 1st gen. i also thought about getting the flip ultra hd but i like the feature set of the vado much more. so i used the extra money saved for an extra battery, wall charger, and a tiny tripod. yeah!
here is one of my first test videos done at work. it’s pretty overcast outside and the light inside is pretty minimal. overall, the quality of video isn’t TERRIBLE for a tiny tiny camcorder. also take note i did convert it to flash and it lost some quality there to.
video was converted with adobe media encoder – flv web-medium widescreen setting.
(and it being the weekend) is having an excuse to not do anything productive. this morning i went and took the practice gre exam and completely bombed. stupid me didn’t have any breakfast, just coffee. the only food i brought with me was a banana, and that sure as hell wasn’t enough to get me through until well past noon. needless to say, throughout the test i got shaky and fuzzy headed and slightly sick. :\
after the practice gre, went out to the ramen shop and inhaled a bowl of kimchee ramen and some delicious gyoza. it had been too long since visiting the ramen shop. after ramen came tokyo! on blu-ray and some much needed ginger/lemon/honey infusion for my throat. all in all, i have to say tokyo! was…ok. the second film just about ruined it for me. all the dialogue in the language nobody understood without subtitles….wtf. seriously, wtf. it was many many minutes of painful sitting.
so after movie, i took a nap. woke up and ate more noodles…took a shower…and then i thought i would watch another movie, and then decided against it. thought i would catch up on season 3 of 30 rock…but then thought perhaps i would like to finish reading the first wreauththu book but then got sidetracked by the internet.
while on the internet i came to realize scribblenauts had been leaked onto the interwebs. my god…the game is great. the tutorial was kind of slow and long and i thought the rest of the game would follow in the same fashion. boy was i wrong. this game is FUN. FUUUUUUN. and i made a cthulhu! only it attacked me and i died, so i ended up riding a unicorn instead.
at some point, some time ago, i was rooting around the internets for info on the watchmen movie. a couple of weeks ago i got a phone call from brian at gofobo.com telling me i had won a prize in the watchmen sweepstakes and that he had sent me an email. i vaguely remembered entering this sweepstakes and i searched around on the internet until i finally found it. turns out i won the fifth prize package which includes ALL of this stuff:
WATCHMEN: THE FILM COMPANION by Peter Aperlo (Soft cover)
Watchmen Soundtrack CD
Women’s Tee
Men’s Tee
Cap
Tattoo
Button
Condom
granted most of it will probably sit somewhere on the shelf unused and whatever…but hey, free crap is FREE crap right?
so thanks gofobo.com for sending me all of this stuff. i might wear the ladies tee, and i will most likely read through the film companion. all the other stuff…who knows. but i appreciate you picking me to win.
i am officially burned out with the semester. good news is, i’m not going to fail any of my classes, in fact, i should come out with nothing less than a B.
on average i spend a few hours a night, and maybe a few nights a week focusing on schoolwork. the rest of my time is spent reading comics, reading books, playing video games, watching movies and doing squat on the internet. it’s a pretty good life. lol. over the last week and a half i have spent most of my waking hours doing school work and on every single day. of course, when in such long stretches of studying/completing assignments it is absolutely necessary to have music dragging your ass forward.
i have been listening to two songs obsessively.
camouflage – the great commandment
i love this video and i love this song. serious. everyone should go back and re-visit this song because it is amazing.
sonic youth – kool thing
this video is really really really terrible. and there are a few seconds before the video start with mtv’s post modern segment. *snicker* i still want to start thrashing wildly and sing into a wooden spoon when i hear this song.
these two videos i’ve been watching on repeat. it’s been a rough month and a life…so i need to find the simple things in life that put a smile on my face….
everytime i watch one of these videos i start cracking up…
