comicfest 2010!

April 18th, 2010 crawford No comments

well starfest and comicfest were this weekend. pdubz and i went out on saturday to catch the dc nation panel and do an interview with matt sturges. there were WAY more people than i imagined there would be. it was kind of insane. it was a good time and the hotel had some really delicious burgers.

i want more comics had a pretty good spread at the vendor booth. i picked up the incognito trade from them. i picked up the first issue way back when and somehow managed to miss all of the rest. oops. i also picked up a copy of daredevil: visionaries (vol 1 and 2) by frank miller.  i do have the issues that make up these trades in a short box somewhere in my sister’s basement, but it’s always nice to have a trade to flip through and read on a whim.

pdubz and i both had fiona staples and amy reeder do sketches for us. i asked for me to be drawn as a robot (and holding scissors?) and pdubz got herself being eaten by a dragon and a nice little unicorn with a gem eyeball.

below is a video of the afterthoughts, i don’t feel like effin around with the audio though, so you can just deal with the quiet spots.

and in the aftermath…

December 15th, 2009 crawford No comments

well, i made it through school. on saturday, december 12, 2009 i graduated college with my b.s. in electrical engineering. whoo!

now i need to get my grad school apps together, study for the gre, and find a job. i did recently find a new apartment so i need to start packing too. i am also still working on my senior design project. i want it to be up and running. i also have a few projects in mind that i would like to work on. those can come at a later date though.

when this is all said and done, or maybe at some point in the meantime i will catch up on my comic books, video games, and tv shows/movies. honestly, i don’t think there will be a point where i will become too bored. i am SO BEHIND on everything. i visited my local comic shop last week and picked up the stack of comics that had been in my pull list for the last 6 weeks. yikes. i missed a lot of good stuff. i’m kind of bummed that straczynski wont be doing thor anymore.

i also decided it was time to finally sit down and watch all of boogiepop phantom. i have had the box set for about 6 years now and have never watched all 12 episodes. it’s time. also, a lot of my books will be going into storage shortly so i thought it necessary to pull out a few and have lying around so i can actually get around to reading them. yeah!

on the videogame front. i recently purchased a wii. so basically i have to catch up on all the good games that came out for it since launch. i have yet ot beat any of the ps3 games i own…and i just bought a few more. i started dragon age: origins on the xbox 360 but had to stop when school started getting intense again, so i do wan to finish that up…and i got an early copy of bayonetta. whoo! and then the slew of psp and ds games that keep coming out. man, oh man.

i should be polishing up my resume but i feel kind of sick and out of it. i should probably go to bed. i think i’ll just read a few comics first. i almost forgot they were sitting in a pile.

at some point, some time ago, i was rooting around the internets for info on the watchmen movie. a couple of weeks ago i got a phone call from brian at gofobo.com telling me i had won a prize in the watchmen sweepstakes and that he had sent me an email. i vaguely remembered entering this sweepstakes and i searched around on the internet until i finally found it. turns out i won the fifth prize package which includes ALL of this stuff:

  • WATCHMEN: THE FILM COMPANION by Peter Aperlo (Soft cover)
  • Watchmen Soundtrack CD
  • Women’s Tee
  • Men’s Tee
  • Cap
  • Tattoo
  • Button
  • Condom

Watchmen_5th_Prize_Pkg

granted most of it will probably sit somewhere on the shelf unused and whatever…but hey, free crap is FREE crap right?

so thanks gofobo.com for sending me all of this stuff. i might wear the ladies tee, and i will most likely read through the film companion. :) all the other stuff…who knows. but i appreciate you picking me to win.

aetheric mechanics

October 29th, 2008 crawford No comments

with nothing to do at work i sit around and try to find ways to entertain myself without blowing up the lab. one way to do so is to read comics. warren ellis came out with a paperback novella last week titled aetheric mechanics. i have to say it was filled with psuedo-steampunkie goodness. honestly, i didn’t know where the story was going but ellis totally pulled it together in the end. i have to admit he is one of my favorite comic book authors.

this one, in particular, totally rocks with the back in the day setting coupled with crazy technology. and of course, the weird human psyche and relationships that go along with any story.

i do recommend. :)
